Defence prime, Leonardo, has formalised a significant collaboration with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The memorandum of understanding, signed recently, underscores a strategic partnership between the Italian-based company, which has government backing, and Saudi Arabia, aiming to bolster mutual interests in aerospace and defence sectors.
Stefano Pontecorvo, Chairman of Leonardo, hailed the agreement as pivotal, stating, “This signing represents an important opportunity to consolidate defence cooperation and strengthen a joint vision for future combat air operations.” He emphasised the potential for technological advancements through collaborative efforts.
Under the agreement, areas of collaboration span a wide spectrum, including space technology, rotorcraft, electronic systems, combat air capabilities, and digital innovations. Lorenzo Mariani, co-general manager of Leonardo, expressed enthusiasm, highlighting the potential for high-tech solutions and localised research and development.
The collaboration aims not only to enhance defence capabilities but also to promote economic diversification and innovation, aligning with the objectives of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. This strategic move underscores Leonardo’s commitment to the region, building upon its decades-long presence and track record of delivering advanced technologies and services to Saudi Arabia.
The partnership is expected to pave the way for transformative reforms, empowering both nations to explore new horizons in defence technology and industrial capabilities.
