The largest electronics wholesale market in the world, located in Huaqiangbei, Shenzhen, China, was forced to shut down for four days due to a rise in Covid-19 cases, according to a report by South China Morning Post.
Merchants in the district woke up on Monday to the notice saying that the area will be closed through Thursday. All tenants are required to work from home during the period and take a nucleic acid test every day, according to one of the district’s biggest operators, Huaqiang Electronics World.
As Beijing strives to compromise between its zero-Covid policy and maintaining economic activity, the city of more than 17 million people managed to limit a Covid-19 outbreak in March following a week-long lockdown and has been hailed as an example of effective governance, as per SMCP.
