TSMC to raise foundry prices, say reports

TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) has notified all customers of an increase in foundry prices to take effect immediately, including orders produced on the same day and orders placed.

According to SemiMedia, TSMC’s latest price increase is higher and wider than expected and is expected to impact on the iPhone 13 among a range of electronic products.

The report pointed out that due to the continuous supply shortage and the rising prices of silicon wafers and other raw materials, TSMC’s gross profit margin has dropped from 52.4% in the first quarter to 50.0% in the second quarter.

According to IC Design Company, TSMC’s price increase is about 7% to 9% for 7nm and 5nm, and prices for other mature process technologies are up about 20%.
