MLCC sales surge during pandemic

Passive component industry insiders are reporting a surge in demand for MLCCs during the pandemic, driven by a sharp increase in tablets, laptops and network communications. These electronic products need to use a large number of MLCCs.

Compounding the problem, while the overall MLCC inventory is historically very low, it’s is reported that since many Chinese electronics manufacturers have now resumed production, the demand for MLCCs has rebounded.

This is happening at a time of relatively low supply: passive parts makers such as Murata, Samsung, Walsin and Ralec have had to temporarily close factories in the Philippines and Malaysia during lockdown.
