Global smartphone shipments are expected to decline by 15% Y-O-Y to 1.15 billion units in 2020, as brand leaders Apple, Samsung and Huawei cut shipment targets in the wake of coronavirus pandemic, according to Digitimes Research.
The article refers to Apple’s downwards revision of financial guidance for the March quarter which would fall short due to the global health crisis. Back in January, Apple revised projected revenue from $63 to $67 billion for Q1, but that target became impossible as Chinese demand declined and supply chain disruptions started to bite.
Apple’s primary iPhone assembler Foxconn has also slashed its 2020 revenue outlook after strict quarantines were implemented at its main base in China.
DigiTimes also claims that Apple has cut its iPhone 11 orders for the second and third quarters of the year owing to the impact of the crisis.
