MOSFETs lead time may be impacted by Malaysian lockdown

Malaysia’s extension of the nationwide lockdown due to coronovirus is expected to impact on lead times of MOSFETs (metal-oxide-field-effect transistors) from some manufacturers, and prices may rise again.

A number of semiconductor IDM companies such as Infineon, ON Semiconductor, STMicroelectronics and NXP have factories in Malaysia, and business includes wafer manufacturing and packaging and testing for power semiconductors, rectifiers, logic ICs and other products.

According to semiconductor reports, the current lead time of MOSFETs is at least 30 weeks, while the lead time of some of IDM’s medium and low voltage MOSFETs has reached 40 weeks.

Industry insiders predict the continued tight supply of these IDM companies and the shift of capacity to the mid-to-high-end market have caused orders for consumer products to be substantially transferred to Chinese MOSFET suppliers.
