The majority of Shanghai’s integrated circuit (IC) firms have gone back to work, according to comments made by the the city’s industry regulator reported in this article.
They also announced plans for a US$2.2 billion investment in a new wafer plant in the Lingang area of Shanghai. It will start operation around 2023 with a monthly capacity of 60,000 units for image sensor chips, the commission said.
Firms in the Shanghai area along with the Yangtze Rive Delta region includes SMIC, Huahong and GTC Semiconductor, together forming a hub of the most advanced and complete IC suppliers on the Chinese mainland. These firms produce chips, sensors and other components for 5G, medical devices.
