Automotive chip shortage halts 90,000 new vehicles

The chip shortage continues to have a major impact on the automotive industry.

Reporting new figures from AutoForecast Solutions, the website Automotive News said more than 90,000 vehicles were cut from production plans in Asia, North America, and Europe in a week during April.

According to the latest numbers, the industry is currently facing a shortage of 1 million chips.

The microchip shortage is being blamed on a number of factors, including the pandemic, which caused an increase in demand for electronics. This has led to a supply chain issue, as many chip manufacturers have been unable to keep up with demand. The situation has been exacerbated by a fire at a Japanese chip factory in March, which further limited the supply of chips.

The shortage has caused automakers to reduce production, lay off workers, and even shut down factories. It has also pushed up the cost of cars, as automakers are having to pay more for the chips they do get. This is likely to have a ripple effect throughout the industry, with suppliers and dealers also feeling the pinch.

The situation is expected to remain serious for some time, with the shortage lasting until at least the end of the year. Automakers are doing their best to manage the situation, but until the chip supply is back to normal, the industry will continue to suffer.
