Astute Electronics leveraged their logistics know-how to deliver vital supply-chain materials into the new ParaPAC ventilators from Smiths Medical, which are now helping save lives up and down the country.

Deliveries of ParaPAC to hospitals began mid-April. The model was already being built before the COVID-19 outbreak. Smiths Medical had to increasing ParaPAC production from hundreds to thousands a month to fulfill 10,000 units as part of the The Ventilator Challenge UK consortium (TVUK). Combining the manufacturing muscle of 14 firms including Airbus, Thales, Siemens, BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce, McLaren and Meggitt, the group has enabled rapid up-scaling of production.

“We’re really proud to be a key supply-chain partner in this vital, life-saving project. Astute 3PL (Third-Party Logistics) has been involved in supplying a logistical solution to Thales, ensuring material has, and will continue to be delivered across the country to meet the production needs to enable Smiths Medical to get their ventilators out in the field,” said Freddie Roe, Aerospace & Defence Director of Astute Electronics.

Earlier this week the Guardian’s Inside Story reported that the ParaPAC is one of only six projects that is going ahead; the other 10 including Dyson’s ‘CoVent’ and the Renault/Aston Martin ‘Project Bluesky’ are under review or cancelled.
