Samsung rolls out new MLCC for 5G base stations

Samsung Electro-Mechanics says it will begin to supply their new high-capacitance, high-voltage MLCC for 5G communication base stations to telecoms companies starting this month.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ new MLCC is the size 3225 (3.2mm in width, 2.5mm in height) with a high capacitance of 10uF (microfarad) and a high rated voltage (highest voltage that equipment can withstand without being damaged by voltage) of 100V (volt).

The number of MLCCs required for a 5G base station is four times that of a 4G station, says Samsung on their website, adding that the 5G communication base station market is projected to reach about KRW 35 trillion in 2025.

The Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor (MLCC), a core component in electronic devices that controls the stable current flow within electronic circuits, is essential for products such as smartphones, home appliances, and automobiles.
