Record breaking years ahead for semiconductor development, says IC Insights

R&D spending by semiconductor companies worldwide is forecast to grow a further 4% in 2021 to $71.4 billion after rising 5% in 2020 to a record high of $68.4 billion, according to the latest report from IC Insights.

IC Insights also predicts that from 2021 to 2025, the total R&D expenditure of semiconductor companies will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5.8%, reaching $89.3 billion.

The report pointed out that although the global semiconductor industry has experienced a significant impact from the Covid-19 epidemic in 2020, total revenue has increased by an astonishing 8% during the year.
