LPDDR3 SDRAM designed to cope with power hungry mobile devices.

Astute Electronics Ltd, franchised global distributor and procurement specialist, introduces the latest LPDDR3 SDRAM memory solution from Alliance Memory – worldwide high-end manufacturer of legacy memory products.

The LPDDR3 is a next generation high-speed CMOS mobile low-power DDR3 SDRAM developed specifically to prolong battery life in portable devices. With a growing need for higher power, more compact devices, Alliance developed the LPDDR3 to provide high speed at lower voltage.

Operating at 1.2V/1.8V the LPDDR3 is packed with power saving features. The 16Gb AS4C512M32MD3 is available in the 11.0mm by 11.5mm 178-ball FBGA package.

To cope with increased demands for power the LPDDR3 device utilises features like an auto temperature-compensated self-refresh (TCSR) which minimizes power consumption at lower ambient temperatures and its partial-array self-refresh (PASR) feature, reduces power by only refreshing essential data, while a deep power down (DPD) mode delivers an ultra-low power state when data retention isn’t important.

“Reducing battery consumption has never been more important,” said Mick Martin, Semiconductor Division Manager of Astute Electronics. “So the applications for LPDDR3 SDRAMs in mobile communications will continue to grow. Since traditional suppliers for these devices are disappearing, we can offer designers an alternative answer and shorter lead times for the low power consumption solutions they require.”

The new 16Gb AS4C512M32MD3 will provide a reliable plug-in, pin-for-pin-compatible replacement for a number of similar solutions in high-bandwidth, high-performance systems.

The device offers high-speed operation with a 667MHz clock frequency and a data rate of 1333Mbps.  It also features an extended commercial temperature range of between -25°C to +85°C. The LPDDR3 SDRAM allows fully synchronous operation and programmable read or write burst lengths of 4, 8, or 16. Its refresh functions include auto- or self-refresh and are simple to use. The RoHS-compliant device is composed of lead (Pb) and halogen-free.
