High-tech companies dominate Gartner supply chain leaders list

Supply chain management is a key differentiator for companies in any industry, but it is especially important for high-tech companies. This is because high-tech products are often complex and require a wide range of components, which can be difficult to source and manage.

The 2023 Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 list, which ranks the best supply chain organisations in the world, is dominated by high-tech companies. In fact, 10 of the top 25 spots are held by high-tech companies, including Schneider Electric, Cisco Systems, and Apple.

Schneider Electric took the top spot on the list, followed by Cisco Systems and Apple. Schneider Electric was praised for its “ecosystem approach” to supply chain management, which has helped the company reduce the carbon footprint of some key suppliers by 10% in less than two years. Cisco Systems was recognized for its “innovation-led supply chain,” which has helped the company stay ahead of the competition in the fast-paced technology industry. Apple was commended for its “efficient and resilient supply chain,” which has helped the company weather supply chain disruptions and continue to meet demand for its products.

The dominance of high-tech companies on the Gartner Supply Chain Top 25 list is a sign of the importance of supply chain management to the success of these companies. In the fast-paced and competitive technology industry, companies need to have a strong supply chain in order to stay ahead of the competition and meet the demand for their products.

Gartner identified several trends that make leaders stand out in the supply chain. These trends include:

  • Identifying and capturing new opportunities: Smart supply chain organisations are always considering how to help the organization grow while mastering supply chain risk. This demands a combination of mitigating unexpected challenges while anticipating and avoiding upcoming risks.
  • Driving individual and collective progress: Gartner points to a trend of participating in many-to-many ecosystems to create a trusted environment for partnering and data sharing while managing governance tasks. Some fruitful areas for this trend include pursuing net-zero emissions goals and supporting a living wage through the global supply chain.
  • Transforming the ways the organization works: Forward-thinking organizations consider the supply chain as a vehicle for connecting customers, suppliers, partners, and employees. Supply chain technologies allow workers to be more productive by automating key tasks and changing the way the organisation functions.

These trends are likely to continue to shape the supply chain landscape in the years to come with those companies that are able to embrace these trends reaping the greatest rewards.
