Astute recognised by Ministry of Defence with Inspiring Leadership award

Astute’s Mark Shanley recognised for his contributions to the Anti-Counterfeit Working Group and “for the greater good” of Defence

[London – 15th December, 2017] Astute Electronics has jointly won a prestigious Ministry of Defence (MOD) 2017 Quality Award for Inspiring Leadership.

Astute’s Mark Shanley, Global Business Manager, was recognised for his “valued participation and contribution” to the MoD’s Industry Counterfeit-Avoidance Working Group (CAWG). The Group was collectively awarded the prize by Air Vice-Marshal Mike Quigley, MOD defence authority for technical and quality assurance, and deputy head of profession for quality, at the annual MOD Quality Event in Bristol last month.

Christopher Elliott, QCM(Pol) DepHd, MOD Co-chair of The Defence Industries Quality Forum (DIQF), also congratulated Mark and thanked him for applying his specialist knowledge “for the greater good” of Defence.

Speaking proudly about the team’s win, Mark said: “It’s refreshing to be part of a working group that is a market leader in the fight against counterfeit components entering the Ministry of Defence supply chain”.

The award recognises the inspirational leadership the MOD Industry Counterfeit Avoidance Working Group has given in mitigating the risk of counterfeit material disrupting MOD Front Line operations, said Mr Elliott. This allowed the development of policy and tools, a Defence Standard for contracting purposes with an accompanying Maturity Model for use by MOD and Industry and communication through annual awareness events.

Other awards were given at the MOD Quality Award 2017 including those for Best Improvement, Rising Star and Quality Ambassador.
