Astute Electronics Hosts Visit from Defence Equipment & Support Representatives

British Army Challenger

Astute Electronics recently welcomed representatives from Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S), including CEO Andy Start and Defence Commercial’s Director of Supply Chain, Julie Brettell, to its headquarters. The visit provided an exclusive opportunity to present Astute’s cutting-edge facilities and advanced capabilities, which play a crucial role in supporting the UK defence sector.

During the tour, the representatives explored various key aspects of Astute’s operations, including its highly specialised counterfeit mitigation labs, nitrogen storage systems, and the significantly expanded capacity of its third-party logistics operations area. The tour also included a briefing on Astute’s latest advancements in project management; a vital component of the service offering to the defence industry.

A particular highlight of the visit was the presentation of Astute Salus: the company’s innovative platform designed to address the growing needs of the aerospace and defence industries. Salus demonstrates Astute’s ongoing commitment to providing cutting-edge technical product offerings and services, further enhancing its position as a trusted partner within the UK defence supply chain.

Freddie Roe, Astute’s Aerospace and Defence Director, expressed his excitement at the opportunity to hold such a high-profile visit. “It was a real privilege to host the visit of DE&S CEO Andy Start and Defence Commercial’s Director Supply Chain, Julie Brettell. Our work with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is typically through the major prime contractors, so for the CEO and his team to take a direct interest in what Astute does – and more importantly, how and why we do it – was a real honour,” Roe commented.

The visit provided Astute with the chance to demonstrate its extensive capabilities, particularly in the area of counterfeit mitigation. Astute’s counterfeit mitigation labs are part of its broader commitment to ensuring that only genuine and reliable components are delivered to critical defence projects. With the increasing frequency of counterfeit products in global supply chains, Astute’s work in this area is of particular importance to the MoD and its supply chain integrity.

Roe also highlighted the importance of the company’s third-party logistics operations, which have recently seen a significant expansion in capacity. “Sharing our techniques on counterfeit mitigation, showcasing the wide breadth of commodity handling, and demonstrating our dedicated project management and supply chain expertise within Astute 3PL, I believe, opened their eyes to our capabilities in the lower-tier supply chain”.

The meeting was marked by a sense of optimism for future collaboration, as Brettell expressed interest in bringing a key working group back to Astute for further engagement. Roe described the outcome of the visit as a “significant success”, reinforcing Astute’s role in supporting the UK defence sector with its unique blend of expertise and innovation. “The meeting was extremely positive,” Roe said. “For Julie to look towards further engagement with a working group is a huge compliment to Astute and a testament to the value we bring to the supply chain. We’re looking forward to continuing to build on this partnership and exploring new ways to support the MoD.”

Astute Electronics has long been recognised for its contributions to the aerospace and defence industries, providing high-quality components, supply chain solutions, and project management expertise. This latest engagement with DE&S signals the growing importance of Astute’s role in supporting the UK’s defence infrastructure, particularly as the sector navigates the challenges of modern supply chains and the need for advanced technological solutions.

As the UK defence sector continues to prioritise innovation, security, and reliability in its supply chain, Astute remains at the forefront, offering comprehensive solutions that address the sector’s most pressing needs. This visit from DE&S leadership underscores the importance of Astute’s contributions and highlights the company’s continued commitment to delivering excellence across all aspects of its operations.
